The NHS Confederation has written to the government urging it to introduce a new national minimum wage rate for all health and social care workers. This follows increasing concerns that widespread staff shortages will negatively impact patient care.

A new consultation has been launched, proposing changing staff-to-child ratios in early years settings from 1:4 to 1:5 for two-year-olds, giving providers more flexibility in how they run their businesses. Harpur Trust v Brazel: What you need to know for part-year workers
After 7 years, we finally have a conclusion in the case of Harpur Trust v Brazel. It’s been confirmed that the previous 12.07% of a worker’s hours rule should not be used, as this can leave some worse off. Instead, all workers should have their holiday pay calculated based on their average earnings over the previous 52 working weeks, and all workers will get 5.6 weeks leave.
Supportis says:
July was another busy month for HR & Employment Law news! A new NMW for Health & Social Care workers would help boost recruitment & retention. Hopefully we see this adopted.
We support many in the early years education sector; although the lowered cost would be welcomed by clients, H&S implications of lowering the ratio of staff to children must be considered before any changes are made.
Harpur Trust v Brazel brings a welcome conclusion to the holiday pay confusion, however, Supportis are experts in holiday pay and any other HR queries. Give us on a call on the details below should you need any HR or Employment Law assistance.
