Beat the Landlord Tax Rises – Event Summary

This past Monday all the Davis Grant partners gathered at the local branch of NatWest to get local property investors up to speed on critical tax changes that amount to a rising tax bill for Landlords.

The event was well attended with over 20 attendees who learnt about the key topics from Davis Grant’s own Barry Chernoff:

  • How the restriction of Mortgage Interest Tax relief may seriously reduce income from your Buy-to-Let properties.
  • Should you consider running your buy-to-let business as a company?

Also covered…

  • The additional Stamp Duty of 3% introduced to discourage buy-to-let investors.
  • Capital Gains Tax on residential property disposal.
  • How the removal of Wear and Tear allowance will affect how you manage your furnished properties.

Davis Grant Team Member in bid for Christmas #1

linda-stewartWe are proud that Linda Stewart our Bookkeeping Supervisor can be heard on a unique protest single released today by a group of music stars and MPs as a tribute to the late MP Jo Cox and her outstanding public service.

Sales from the song, a cover of the Rolling Stones classic You Can’t Always Get What You Want will raise funds for the launch of the Jo Cox Foundation established after her death. The song was chosen as it called for multiple singers and choirs, reflecting a message of togetherness. During a time of growing worldwide political upheaval and uncertainty, the song marks the need for unity and tolerance.

Linda took part along with the Royal Opera House Thurrock Community Chorus to form Friends of Jo Cox featuring MP4, Steve Harley, Ricky Wilson, KT Tunstall and David Gray.

At Davis Grant we couldn’t be prouder and encourage you all to support this single and this remarkable cause in honour of Jo Cox MP’s legacy and work.

Rooftop Crazy Golf Social Outing

At Davis Grant our large team of accountants love to escape the office and socialise with each other. Last friday after work a group of us headed down to play Crazy Golf on a rooftop in Stratford with views of the Olympic Park and new home of West Ham United!

It was a really fun evening that included some amazing food and entertainment…

To make the golf rounds manageable the group split into teams or three or four with all departments and positions mixed together. Groups included Directors, Managers and Trainees who all putted their wits against each other and pitched in to making the night a great success.

The scoring was quite rightly left to the Book-keepers and no-one could cry foul when it was one of their own Lorraine who tallied the best score.

After the official round the evening got really interesting with some of the team taking part in Archery, another round of golf or simply enjoying some food, the live music, and the photo booth!

Wanstead Networking Success

There were over 70 registrations for the event and there was a diverse group of professions represented. From landscape gardening, to copywriting and laundry services. To name but a few!

Paul Henry, of Paul Henry Architects, addressed the attendees to thank them for their support and spoke about how the Wanstead Business Network provides a community built on friendly advice and fellow professionals “who you can genuinely trust”.
